Employee Opinion Surveys:
Customized Version
Custom-designed surveys are a great way to get a handle on the opinions, attitudes and perceptions of the employees in an organization.
Is employee turnover high? Not sure how employees really feel about a new initiative? Want to know which benefit options are valued most by your employees?
Employee opinion surveys can be customized to target these and similar issues using terminlogy (project names, work unit names, etc.) that is specific to your organization. Customization can also be extended to which comparative norms are used: based on a combination of location, industry, and company size.
Although out-of-the-box employee surveys are offered by many online providers, we have found that the success of an employee opinion survey project requires a lot more than an online survey and boilerplate reports. For example, the following are some items to consider when planning an employee opinion survey:
- Initial research to determine the topic and related subtopics to be surveyed. This includes conducting focus groups and obtaining input from the various stakeholders
- Planning the survey - setting up a project team, publicizing the project, getting employee buy-in, assuring confidentiality
- Formulating the questions and testing them to eliminate duplication and ambiguity
- Designing the reports - management overview reports and granular reports that highlight the important findings
